Tragically, Joe was found hanged from a rope swing in woodland just yards from our home. He'd been playing out with his friends and had failed to come home at the normal time. We raised the alarm and searched for him. We found him but it was too late and we couldn't do anything to save him.
Joe was a happy, smiling boy who was loved by all who knew him.
He was a pupil at Up Holland High School and would have just finished his first year there. He liked school, but if you'd have asked him, he wouldn't have admitted it. He never complained about going to school although he didn't always like getting out of bed in the mornings. He always spoke highly of his form tutor Mr Johnson. His headteacher Peter Doyle said: "Joe was a quiet, bright and articulate young man. He had many friends at school.â€
He was a typical 12 year old who loved to do all the things that 12 year old boys do. He enjoyed playing with his younger brother, swimming, and trips to the cinema with his friends. He was very creative and could read music and play the guitar from a young age.
He was a member of the Orrell Ju Jitsu club and just recently passed his grading. He gained a blue and white belt. He was really looking forward to the inter-club challenge which is later in the year.
He had an XBox 360 which he played as much as we would allow him to. His favourite game was Guitar Hero and he used to play it with his friends on XBox live.
We all now have a massive hole in our hearts and lives, which will never ever be filled, but we also have memories of a son whose life was over far too soon. We are comforted by the thought that he is now at peace. We miss him and I think we always will.
